Dorset is a stunning county, with an abundance of places to explore for free, like beaches, Purbeck Heaths, Blackmore Vale and loads more! There’s lots to keep the whole family happy for either free, or low cost, some of our favourites…
Blagdon Farm in Weymouth is a perfect spot to pick strawberries, have a play and enjoy a highly-recommended cream tea! You pay for the strawberries that you pick (by weight) – cash only.
Enjoy the top deck of an open-top bus ride, see some of the prettiest views the Jurassic coast has to offer and hop on & off to enjoy the beach or get an ice cream!
Ticket and timetable information is available online.
This is sure to be a winner with everyone! There are animals, indoor AND outdoor play areas, walks, a pond & a lovely cafe. Free parking and free entry make this a really accessible day out. Dogs can visit too, but on a lead, away from the animals.
One of this Mumbler’s absolute favourite activities! There are lots of good spots for crabbing around Dorset, for the best local ones, ask in the shops that sell the crabbing lines. You will need a bucket and line, as well as some bait (I think bacon works best!), these are available all along the seafront in most of the county’s towns, just be careful disposing of lines and putting crabs back!
Dorset is lucky enough to have several libraries, which offer activities throughout the week, and during the holidays, usually free. Of course, there’s also access to thousands of books, as well as computers and other resources. Joining the library is free and open to everyone. For more information on your local library, have a look here.
There are lots of museums in Dorset, and some of them even have free entry! Have a look at our list for some ideas – otherwise, many of the attractions offer family tickets or local discounts, so keep your eyes peeled!
Another free day out! The gardens are lovely for a wander and have some animals and a small play area. The cafe there is definitely worthy of a mention – the cake is delicious!!
Just a couple of minutes’ walk down the road is Moreton Ford, a safe, clean place to take a paddle when the weather is sunny! Free parking is available throughout the village, with two large signposted carparks.
A lovely nature reserve with loads of interactive activities along the way to keep children engaged, as well as breathtaking views from Swanage. You have to pay for car parking, but entry is free otherwise. Why not take a picnic and make a day of it?!
These are just some of my favourites, but have a look at the full list here!
